Where We Are
We are now in Hawaii on Oahu’s North Shore.
We’re back on US soil — or, sand — after a visit to Seoul, South Korea … after a super quick swing through Japan … where we moved, moved, moved through three epic adventures — Hiroshima (the atomic bomb memorial, Japanese baseball), Tokyo, and Nagoya (to tour Toyota’s world headquarters):
We slept (mostly) in Kyoto, Japan … after an epic, three-countries-in-three-days journey:
We started that epic journey in Shanghai, the end of our China itinerary.
We’ve just arrived off the overnight train from Xian, China … and a visit to see the terra cotta warriors.
Previously, we were in and around Beijing, China — volunteering at the New Day Foster Home … and visiting the Great Wall.
Prior to China, we were in Hanoi, Vietnam … after a few GLORIOUS days in God’s Creation … on a boat in Ha Long Bay:
Previously, we were doing sun, fun — and math — at the beach in Vietnam, after a super cool train trip from Saigon.
Previously, we went with Grammy to Ho Chi Minh City, a sprawling beautiful city that began a whole new season of journey in Asia:
We visited Bangkok, our second major Asian city … after W soldiered through a bout with dengue fever … just in time for the Thailand
new year … and a visit to Bangkok’s Grand Palace:
We came back to Bangkok from Siem Reap, Thailand and an epic visit through some of the temples in that part of the world:
Previously, we’d been in Chiang Mai, Thailand … after spending a week along the Thailand-Burma border … where, among other things, the boys shared a skit based on the Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego story in refugee camps:
We were originally welcomed to Chiang Mai by some friends from home …
… after a few days at a RESORT in northern Malaysia. Much fun … and much sun:
Prior to that, we were in Kenya. Within an hour of arriving in Nairobi, we were having dinner with some new friends at a home inside a prison. Game on:
Last week, we were in Rwanda. The experience of seeing help given to vulnerable people blew our minds.
Before Rwanda, we were in Tanzania … spending the majority of our time in Dar es Salaam … but stopping for a few days in Zanzibar:
We are now back in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. A few weeks ago, we spent a glorious week on safari.
Previously, we were in Istanbul, Turkey … where we visited the city’s Hagia Sophia church/mosque:
Previously, we were in Turkey’s Cappadocia region … climbing through homes built INTO the stone hundreds and hundreds of years ago …
… and celebrating CHRISTMAS in Antalya with some new friends who might be angels:
Before that, we were in southern Turkey, in the footsteps in Saint Paul …
… after spending about a week on Turkey’s AEGEAN coast.
Previously, we were in Athens:
Prior to Athens, we spent less than 24 hours in Tunis on a long layover. (Before bed, W said: “A few days ago, we woke up in the Sahara. The next day we woke up in Casablanca. Then we woke up in Tunis. And tomorrow, we wake up in Athens.”)
Previously, we were drinking in EVERYTHING about the Sahara in Morocco:
Before that, we were in central Morocco — soaking in the new colors, the new sounds, and new CUISINE of an unfamiliar and glorious place.
Previously, we were in southern France. In this photo, we looked across the season’s first changing leaves from an ancient peak that once sheltered “heretic” Christians from the sword.
Before France, we were in Rome …
… before that, we were on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast …
… after spending time in the Istria region of Croatia …
… after spending almost a week in the Swiss Alps — with this view …
… preceded by some time in LAUSANNE, Switzerland … staying with S and J … and enjoying Swiss wine country …
… before that, we were in Germany, staying with M and D (and M!) on an Army Garrison …
Previously, we crossed the English Channel and toured the sites of Brussels with Jonathan, Laurie, Ethan, and David (awesome waffles and frittes!) …
… we stayed for two weeks in the UK’s Lake District (the view from our front yard) …
… before that, we were driving to the Lake District from just west of London, stopping for a few hours to see a 3000-year-old drawing of a horse in the side of a hill …
… we visited Stonehenge …
… we braved the hedge maze at Blenheim Castle …
…we walked in the steps of CS Lewis at Oxford University …
