Art of Language: Bronze Bow Review AOW
—– QUESTION 1
The first part of our title for Chapter 20 is The End of Daniel’s Old Way of Life. The chapter ends with these words:
The two clasped hands. “For God’s Victory,” They said. Then Joel drew his cloak about his face and went out into the darkness.
It is the end of everything, Daniel thought, looking at the closed door. The end of everything we worked for. For the first time he despaired that the day would ever come.
Review Chapter 20 and write down six examples of sentences that describe how Daniel’s old way of life is ending. (Your examples don’t have to be about Daniel specifically. The author uses lots of imagery in this chapter to convey endings.)
—– QUESTION 2
The second part of our title for Chapter 20 is Where Does Daniel’s Life Go Now? With that in mind, read these two sentences tucked in to the chapter’s first paragraph:
The parched brown fields drank in the moisture. The soil fell back, dark red behind the plow, rich for the fall sowing.
This is an image of growth TO COME, right? Plant seeds now, something eventually GROWS. Daniel’s life is GOING SOMEWHERE, past the endings, past the death of his old life.
Try to explain how the ENDINGS you listed for Chapter 20 … might be planting seeds for the next season of Daniel’s life. What does he have to give up or die to in order to move on? Write at least two paragraphs.
